Kimberly is an Air Force spouse out of Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, who works as a Convention Service Manager (Special Events) for Military Spouse Employment Partnership partner La Quinta Inns & Suites.
“I have been married to the military for nearly 26 years. I bring organizational skills, a ‘can do’ attitude, and a heart for helping military families. I have served as a Spouse Mentor for many years helping newer spouses with military life and military deployments. With another spouse, I wrote a resiliency program for deployed families and produced a video to go along with the program.”
What does Kimberly enjoy about her career?
“I enjoy working with people and making a difference wherever I am. It is very difficult to pick up and start over every two years or less. I have job experience in many different areas. I gained experience as a special events coordinator along the way. With another move, I found myself looking for a job once again. I attended a military spouse hiring fair where I met with a Talent Acquisition person for La Quinta Inns & Suites. I told her of my past job experience, submitted a resume and I was hired. I am thrilled to be working for a company that is focused on hiring military veterans and spouses. I also feel very confident that when we move to another location I will be able to continue working for La Quinta Inns & Suites. Job portability is a very important thing to the military spouse and I’m so glad I have that with La Quinta Inns & Suites.”
What is Kimberly’s advice to other military spouses?
“Military spouses have many challenges as they look for work in a new location. My advice first and foremost is to do your very best work wherever you are. The people you work for currently will be your references on future applications. I recommend utilizing military hiring job fairs and job resources through your Military and Family Support Center. I also suggest looking for companies that are committed to hiring military veterans and spouses.”
