Children of Fallen Patriots Day

Children of Fallen Patriots Day

Over the past 25 years, more than 15,000 children have lost their parents in military conflict. Children of Fallen Patriots Day was established to honor those children and also to raise awareness of the sacrifices they’ve made and the struggles they endure in the wake of the loss of their parent(s).

The date, May 13th, was chosen due to it being the same day that Arlington National Cemetery was established in 1864. Children of Fallen Patriots Day is not a nationally recognized day of observance. However, since 2014 governors across the country have issued proclamations designating May 13th as a day set aside to honor these children.

At this time 27 states and the District of Colombia officially recognize and observe Children of Fallen Patriots Day.
