Planning and preparing your Thanksgiving meal does take up a major part of getting ready for the holiday celebration, however you also need to make sure that your dinning table looks amazing. I know I want our table to look elegant, however I do not want to break the kiddos piggy bank to do so. So, I want to show you how you can make the dining table look luxurious for your guests without breaking the bank. There are so many ways you can decorate lavishly for under $20…yes under $20!
First, look around your home and see what you already have, you do not want to purchase what you already have. For example: tablecloths, place mats, glass plates, wine glasses, water glasses, your spoons/knives/forks do not have to be fancy and napkins (cloth or paper will work just fine).
Second, make a plan-map out what you want the table to look like. Get a blank piece of paper and draw it out. (This is a fun activity to have the kiddos help with.)
Next, make a shopping list (remember you only have $20 so you will need to hit the dollar store). Purchase only what you need to complete your dining table.
Finally, come home and make a mock place setting this will insure you have all you need for your elegant Thanksgiving dining table.
Use glass plates so you can add colorful leaf shaped doilies under the plate. This adds a splash of color and looks exquisite.
Have the kiddos come up with a really unique/fun centerpiece idea. My kiddos wanted to use glass vases from our wedding, fill them with rocks and spell out “GIVE THANKS”. They used color construction paper, printed out the letters (they did this on the computer all by themselves), used leaves which we purchased at the dollar store 50 for $1 and glued it all together. The kiddos are super excited to give the centerpiece to grandma and grandpa when they come for Thanksgiving.
You don’t have to spend a lot of $$$ to make your Thanksgiving dining table look amazing. Add your own special touches and make it your own, what really matters is you get to spend time with your family and friends.
Happy Thanksgiving Dining Table Decorating!
