“We practically grew up in the same playpen. We never knew a time when we didn’t know each other,” John Glenn once wrote about how long he’d known his wife Annie. After becoming childhood sweethearts they were married in 1943, at the height of World War II, a conflict that took John to the Pacific Theater where he flew 59 combat sorties.
And for the decades that followed, Annie Glenn supported her husband in his every endeavor. And he supported her, most notably with her severe stutter that got much better during their years together thanks to his unconditional support. His passing on Dec. 8 stopped the clock on the couple’s time together on this earth – a total of more than 93 years based on Annie’s assertion that they met when they were both 2 years old.
