MilSpouseFest kicks off new MSF Cast Series with PCS Tips and Tricks

The MilSpouseFest team started the new year right with the first ever MSF Cast on PCS Tips and Tricks. Presented by USAA, MSF Director Julie Shepard hosted an all-star panel to talk about the tools every spouse needs to have a successful PCS.

Kellie Artis, COO of Millie, kicked off the discussion with early things spouses can think about before the PCS period. “We want to make sure you’re set up for success and are able to make informed decisions early on, so you can savor the time and the adventure,” said Kellie.

JJ Montanaro, Relationship Director with USAA’s Military Affairs Team, went in-depth on financial tips during a PCS. “We encourage having a PCS fund,” said JJ and also recommended looking into insurance policies and what’s covered.

Lizann Lightfoot, Content Editor with PCSgrades, talked about PPMs (personally procured move) and her own experiences moving with kids. “We always start with our family needs,” said Lizann. “[Finding] schools has gotten much more important.”

Megan Harless of PCS Like a Pro wrapped up the panel with a helpful timeline and checklist that spouses can use to plan their PCS. “It’s important to have your own inventory,” said Megan as she was giving some best practices for a move.

In case you missed out, the MSF Cast is on Youtube for spouses to watch.

MSF Casts are short, content focused webinars on topics that affect the military spouse community. Other topics in the year will include relationships and communication, mental health awareness, military spouse entrepreneurs, employment, and careers, education resources for both children and spouses, military tax preparation & finance tips, and Tricare resources.
You can RSVP for the next MSF Cast on Relationships and Communication here, and it will take place on February 24th at noon (ET).
