National Family Caregivers Month

National Family Caregivers Month

November is National Family Caregivers Month. Caregiving is a tough job, and November has been set aside to recognize those who care for the elderly, the sick, and the wounded. As military spouses, as spouses in general, your worst nightmare is something happening to your spouse. Sometimes, that means changing roles and becoming their caregiver. This could be a temporary role as they recover from an illness or injury. But, in many cases, it becomes a more permanent role.

This month has been set aside to acknowledge everything caregivers do and go through. It’s not easy taking on that role for a loved one. It wears on your body, and on your mind. It alters your relationship. These people need recognition mainly because they spend so much time caring for their loved one, that they often forget that they too need love. Self-care often goes to the wayside in these situations. It is important that their efforts don’t go unnoticed.

Are you a caregiver of a loved one? Or do you know someone who is?
