Our Military Kids and Operation: Military Kids

Our Military Kids Matter

Our Military KidsTwo amazing organizations that support military children are Our Military Kids and Operation: Military Kids.  We continually get the two confused and we know that we are not alone in this.

Our Military Kids was founded in 2004 realizing that National Guard and Reserve children lacked access to support services.  Our Military Kids provides funding to help pay for sports, fine arts and tutoring programs for children of deployed National Guard or Reserve.

Operation: Military Kids is commonly known as OMK.  Where Our Military Kids provides funding for activities. Our Military Kids provides activity grants specifically to children ages 5 through 12th grade.  OMK provides activities.  They have a network of national, state and local partners that provide activities where you live.  Each state has different programs.  In many states OMK works hand-in-hand with our Army Reserve Child Youth and School Services outreach specialists.  OMK connects military youth to 4-H, Boys & Girls Clubs and other activities.

Another OMK program is Speak Out for Military Kids (SOMK).  SOMK program provides military youth a voice.  Participating youth Operation Military Kidswork hand-in-hand with non-military youth to bring community awareness about issues faced by military youth.

Both of these organizations help our youth know that our communities support them.  Through each program our youth are provided opportunities to support them as they face the unique challenges of being a military kid.
