The sudden realization that there were no children’s books dedicated to military life is what inspired Athens Pellegrino to write a series on the many changes that come with PCS and other topics.
Athens is not only an active duty military spouse, she is a civilian employee with the United States Air Force as a full time Budget Analyst. Daily, she would search for PCS related stories to read to her son but did not have much luck. She then decided to create one titled, “Mission: My First PCS.”
Shortly after the infamous brainstorm and giving birth to her daughter, the Pellegrino family PCS’d to their new home. “I would work on the book during her many night feedings,” said Athens. “One night while brainstorming, I recognized how many obstacles military families face. It dawned on me that I should create a series of books to serve as resources and tools to help families during these uncertain times. I named the series, The Military Child Chronicles.”
Athens created her own publishing company, Military Life Publishing in May 2001 and got to work on printing the first book. “It was imperative to me that I created a product that would showcase the love and complex emotions, and have complimentary illustrations” she said. “I chose to self publish to be able to control the quality, individuals involved, and distribution.”
The Military Child Chronicles can be bought at: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Target, Goodreads, Waterstones, and a few additional major retailers coming soon.
The second chronicle will be launching November 2021.
