Combined Arms is a dynamic, ever-evolving collaborative impact organization that is using an innovative approach of technology and service delivery to disrupt the veteran transition landscape. By providing a holistic online assessment that efficiently connects veterans to member organizations, Combined Arms is accelerating veteran transition in order to deliver maximum impact on the communities we return to. Combined Arms leverages technology to increase the collaborative efforts of 70+ nonprofits and state agencies. Collectively, the member organizations of Combined Arms provide over 400 resources to veterans, active duty, guard, reservists, and their family members. Through an innovative approach and new partnerships, Combined Arms is now providing its services across the State of Texas, making it the first interconnected state for veteran services in America. In this talk, CEO John Boerstler discusses how to unite communities, leverage technology, and create meaningful and lasting partnerships.

John is the Chief Executive Officer of Combined Arms, a collaborative backbone organization whose mission is to unite the community to accelerate the impact of veterans on Texas. Prior to assuming his role as the CEO of Combined Arms, John also served as the Executive Director of NextOp, as a program manager with Wounded Warrior Project, the Mayor of Houston’s Office of Veterans Affairs, and as a policy and district staffer for a United States Congressman. In 2009, John helped found the Lone Star Veterans Association (LSVA) which became the largest network of Post 9/11 veterans in Texas and successfully merged with Combined Arms in March 2019. John also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999-2007 as an infantry unit leader. John holds a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Houston. John is also a recipient of the Marshall Memorial Fellowship, representing the United States in eight different European countries. As a Marshall Fellow, John has traveled to the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Ukraine to write comparative papers on their military transition systems. As the first Marshall Prize recipient, John recently completed a 3-year project in Ukraine to assist in the development of their Ministry of Veterans Affairs - first of its kind in Europe - and the Veteran Hub - a collaborative backbone predicated on the Combined Arms model. John also recently completed an Eisenhower Fellow where he conducted a comparative study of the Israeli and French military transition systems in Summer 2019.
