Today's fun facts are all about Father's Day!
1) The first Father's Day was in 1910, inspired by Sonora Smart Dodd to recognize her father, William Jackson Smart, a civil war veteran and single dad to six kids. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation calling for Father's Day to be celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of June. Then, in 1972, President Richard Nixon declared Father's Day an official holiday.
2) The oldest Father's Day card dates back 4,000 years. A Babylonian child carved a card out of clay to wish his father good health and a long life.
3) Over 40 countries around the globe have a special day to celebrate dads.
4) The word "dad" is said to have begun around the late 15th century. It is said to have been derived from baby talk, "dada" or "tata", referring to the baby's acknowledgment of their father.
