The event brought together over 100 attendees. 62% of them were affiliated with the Army and the most popular age group was from 35-44.
“It was fantastic connecting with other members of the military community,” said one MSF attendee. “I look forward to more events in the future.”
Military spouse and comedian Ashley Gutermuth shared some jokes and emceed the event. “I am so grateful to have been a part of MilSpouseFest AFTER HOURS @ Central Texas Serves with SXSW,” said Ashley. “I met so many organizations and people that are making a difference for veterans and military families! I can’t wait for our next event in Norfolk!”
Second Service Foundation hosted three finalists in the Military Entrepreneur Challenge pitch competition for a chance to win a $2,000 small business early-stage grant and $25,000 in in-kind legal services from the Foundation’s partner, Holland & Knight LLP. The crowd voted at and selected Hannah Sims, Founder of Rise Alone Therapy as the winner.
Attendees also heard remarks from Austin Community College representatives, Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm, EdD, LPC (Executive Vice Chancellor of Operations and Public Affairs) and Dr. Chris Cervini, EdD (Vice Chancellor for Community and Public Affairs).
“What a great kick-off to the 2023 MilSpouseFest year! ACC provided a gorgeous backdrop for MSF @ Central Texas Serves,” said Danya Devine, MSF Director. “I saw connections being made, money being given away, and lots of laughter, thanks to Ashley Gutermuth, our keynote comedian. I look forward to carrying this momentum into our three programs in Virginia in April.”
